WHAT IF? FLASH FICTION COMPETITION IN GCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Selected in the Top 20 out of over 150 students in an English Writing competition for my cohort at school.

When I was 14, I had to create a story using the theme and concept of 'What If'. As a fan of horror stories and movies, I decided to put a twist on my creativity by writing from my imagination imagining if I was the writer for a horror film.

What If

My adoring little sister Jenna Barlow was brutally molested and murdered. Our parents left home for dinner that night so it was just Jenna and I. The question that I never got to find out is that who had made my precious sister suffer throughout from so much pain that night. What If the murderer is a person that my sister or I know? What If the murderer is an unknown stranger? What If she did this to her own? What If this crisis was plotted then carried out? I constantly contemplate on those questions all the time. What If? The answer is still unknown.

It was Saturday, 25th of February 2002. Usually Jenna and me would have plans to go out however, we thought about staying at home. She told me that she would go to bed early, which was at 10:34pm. I went to sleep at 11:01pm. A few hours later at 3:07am, I heard a frantic screech. I only heard it once. It was rumbustious. I pelted towards my sister’s room. My heart was drubbing like a misty wind. I smoothly opened the door where the ambience of the room was silent.

I silently switched on the lights. The atmosphere was exceedingly mortal. It was just excruciating. It was torment. The room was a catastrophe. Blood was splattered everywhere, against the walls and around the floor. I was completely speechless. She was there, laid down on a pastel rug in front of her bed. I cowered in fear, believing that it wasn’t really happening however, it was happening. Anxiously, I tip toed around each segment of the room, trying to inspect any evidence.

Her flower, flamboyant cupboard had blood handprints engraving everywhere. Both of her cupboard doors were partly opened. The translucent wallpapers of her room encompassed monochrome stained marks isolated into every aspect of the wall. I easily walked closely towards her bed where I saw her mobile phone, the screen had cracked, an empty granola bar wrapper and a double-barreled gun. The murderer would have used the double-barreled gun to shoot Jenna. The silky blanket of her bed consisted of a limited amount of blood. The pillows barely contained any blood. Instead, they looked awfully crummy. Her bedside table had a broken cup along with a half eaten biscuit on a glass plate.

I walked from the bed towards my beloved’s abused body. She had multiple of wounds around her body. Her sober TGIF shirt was torn with blood splashed all over. Her somber leggings were ripped. I noticed that she had a lot of bruise marks when she was abused before being murdered. A sharp, blooded knife was placed next to her body. The murderer could have used the knife to stab Jenna. Her face looked completely disturbing. Her hair looked like a vacuum cleaner has attacked it. It all looked horrendous.

To this day, I still remember everything from that horrifying night.

I will definitely seek out for revenge.
